Womanhood: Yana Reutova & Clara da Costa
Bazaar Festival – work in progress, March 2024
Marie Puchernová, 28. 03. 2024, Operaplus
„Mutual connection, cooperation and excellent coordination of two bodies that merge into one, only to later function separately – each on its own, or even in opposition to one another. We observe the search for trust, helping the weaker, protecting them, finding support in the stronger or experiencing disappointment and the abandonment of a loved one.“

TANEC PRAHA Festival premiere – Žižkov highline, Prague, June 2024

“The contrast between two distinct dance personalities stands out – the delicate, elegant Yana in a green costume and the lively, temperamental Clara, whose expression continually reveals an untamed wildness. The musical backdrop is enriched by live violin passages from Jana Kubánková, which deepen the emotional connection and create intimate moments of closeness. The audience is captivated by the naturalness and spontaneous atmosphere of the performance.”

“Against the backdrop of a long, heavily graffitied brick wall, punctuated by the sound of passing trains on the opposite tracks, the premiere of two Brazilian–Czech co-productions takes place on a temporary stage. In the first piece, Womanhood, Yana Reutova and Clara da Costa suggest that women should ‘not take themselves too seriously.’ While I find myself inwardly resisting whenever someone tells me to rise above everything, what I see on stage is expressed with complete commitment; the dancers first wear their femininity playfully, and later as a sincere, sisterly expression of solidarity.”

PONEC opening of the season 2024/2025 – September 2024
Lucie Kocourková, 27. 09. 2024, Operaplus
“The duet of Yana and Clara has gained greater dramaturgical coherence in its black box version. The enclosed space contributes to this as well, allowing – unlike an open-air performance – the use of lighting design to shape the space and guide the audience’s attention. This gives the choreography a new depth and atmosphere. The music is now fully original and in the hands of the violinist, who throughout the performance fluidly alternates between wild violin passages, inarticulate vocalizations, and fragments of melody. This musical diversity underscores the emotional dynamics of the piece and supports the dance dialogue on stage. The new ending of the performance is complemented by spoken word delivered by the musician, addressing the challenges of womanhood, the desire to escape them, but also the determination to face them again and again. This introduces another thematic layer into the performance, resonating with the everyday experiences of women.”

Together Alone: Yana Reutova & coll.
pre-premiere of the triptych Together Alone Tanec Praha Festival 2023
Markéta Faustová, PR, 06. 07. 2023, Operaplus
“Together Alone I – Lost is a quintet of five Ukrainian dancers, created directly in response to the events of the past year. It portrays the uncertainty and fears that come with living as a refugee in a foreign country, and alongside feelings of loneliness and belonging, it also searches for glimmers of hope. The second part, Together Alone II – Invisible Traces, represents a form of the author’s integration into the environment in which she creates. Developed in collaboration with Czech artists, it explores the invisible traces and fleeting evidence of closeness that we leave on one another.”

Lucie Kocourková, 05.10.2023, Operaplus
“Yana Reutova, as both a dancer and choreographer, comes from a distinct creative background, which lends her work a unique artistic signature. Her choreographies are characterized by a modern aesthetic that emphasizes the inner experience of emotions – expressed not through overt intensity, but rather through subtle, introspective, and deeply felt movement. The performative component of Invisible Traces explores the role of both tangible and intangible memories passed down through previous generations. The dancers move along the perimeter of the object, while their verbal expression alludes to inherited traits and family lineages, creating a profound meditation on memory, roots, and identity. On stage, experienced Czech performers Jitka Čechová, Lukas Bliss Blaha, and Kateřina Jabůrková (alternated with Žaneta Musilová) deliver precise movement and focused expression, fostering an intimate atmosphere. Their performance is harmonious and sensitive, with movement and spoken word flowing seamlessly into one another. The musical component, composed and performed by Tomáš Kerle, contributes significantly to the work’s distinctive atmosphere. The dancers appear to move as if carried on ocean waves; combined with subtle motion and an organic soundscape, this evokes an image of a harmonious, tranquil environment that nevertheless carries a deep reflection on exile, memory, and the search for home.”

„The second part, with its intimate setting and interaction with the audience, invites reflection on personal and collective memories. The stories of family and past happiness create a bittersweet atmosphere that lingers long after the performance ends.“

Yana Reutova – sólo vystoupení
Dance for Ukraine in Sofia, Bulgaria, February 2025
Dr. phil. Radka Rubilina, Director of the Czech Centre Sofia
“Yana Reutova performed as a solo dancer at an event organized by the Czech Centre Sofia in Bulgaria in February 2025. She danced in the gallery of the Czech Centre in the presence of several ambassadors and a wide audience, as part of an event titled Dance for Ukraine, held in support of Ukrainian art worldwide. Yana represented herself as a Czech-Ukrainian artist. In addition to her professional dance performance, she gave a high-quality interview in English for Bulgarian national television and spoke with a number of Bulgarian periodicals. Her visit received significant media attention. Her dance, choice of expressive means, and overall professional execution of the theme were of a high standard. She was able to engage both a professional Bulgarian audience and the general public. I can recommend Yana Reutova as a professional dancer and choreographer, as well as an engaging personality capable of communicating in English, Czech, and Ukrainian.“
